Erik pranked me at the check out

Erik has made his presence known on the Island! Enjoy another Erik Encounter from a  CE Blog Member!  Thankyou for sending them in!  Don’t forget, if you have an experience or a story to share about Erik, send them to us here!  We love to share them!!

About 4-5 weeks after my previous Erik encounter, I was in our little island grocery store with two check outs (town population about 500) waiting third in line. As soon as the clerk tried to scan my first of two items, her register shut down and went offline, she couldn’t reboot it. She moved the line over to the other register and as soon as she tried my item again, that register went offline. The owner’s wife had been sitting at a third computer at her desk nearby tallying up a cart of groceries for delivery, and when she offered to scan my items, hers went offline as well! Their passwords wouldn’t work, they tried calling other employees to get their passwords, no go, and their “IT guy” was busy somewhere else stocking in another store they have. Finally he showed up and started fiddling with the second register. By this time the line was about 8-10 long and I’m feeling foolish that my two little purchases caused all of this. On a Caribbean island no one is in a hurry like in the US, so no one was complaining. They just started chatting and playing games on their cell phones! As I was standing there, it occurred to me that Erik might be pranking the electronics. So I said out loud to to those there: “Oh, sorry, I think I brought my jumbies (spirits) in with me today, I’ll tell them to leave now!” and they all chuckled except the old superstitious ladies who get very serious about “jumbies.” So they could then see I was repeating something under my mask and looking upward. I was saying, “OK, Erik, fix it.” After about 5-10 seconds the first cash register suddenly came alive again with no one near it, so we all moved over there again and checked out. By the time I left they were still trying to get the other two going again, so as I went out the door I repeated, “Yes, Erik, thanks, but those other two also!” I’ll have to ask how long it took for those to come back online when I shop this week.
