He’s Here for Us.

I’m so sorry I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday. It always makes me feel guilty when that happens. I was so busy with family related things, and I also had to take my son, Lukas, to get checked and treated for strep tonsillitis. By the time I got back home, friends were on their way to my house for our Friday night get together and I had to help my daughter, Michelle, make her homemade, famous chicken enchiladas. My husband left for track day at COTA (Circuit of the Americas) in Austin so it was just Robert, Sara Kujawa, Kari Mena, Lukas, Michelle, Nick, Arleen, Easton and me. We had a great time and spend hours chatting in the backyard surrounded by citronella tiki torches. Wish you were there.

Here are some great Erik stories.

Story #1

I’m a pro bono advocate on a legal case. The principal in this case is also known to me through his family. He’s kind of a pain, and when he comes over to sign papers, he hogs my computer. I try to be nice, but his overbearing personality and privileged attitude makes me cringe. One day, I had to use the computer, and this client was sitting at it, surfing. My patience was thin. Silently but firmly I asked Erik: “Make him leave!” Suddenly, his phone rang in another room, and he got up to answer it, and left. Good job Erik!

Story #2

Hi! I came back from a week in Cuba last night and I am very excited to share with you an experience I had that is undoubtedly a sign from Erik. I read My Life After Death in the first days of my stay there. On Saturday night, we were having dinner and there were two talented musicians playing music, one on a violin and another on his guitar. I was listening intently. Then, between two songs, while the musicians were talking to decide which song to play next, I thought of Erik. I thought (in French, since it is my mother tongue): “Erik, if you’re there, play me a song. Since your name is Erik, I want to hear Eric Clapton. Then, I’ll know for sure you’re there.” The first notes started, and I recognized Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven”. I was so shocked I had effectively tears in my eyes!!! I couldn’t tell my husband just then what had happened, because I didn’t want to scare my 9-year old daughter, so I waited until we were back in the room, and he was amazed. Oh, and by the way, on my way back to the room, while we were climbing the stairs, I felt something wet on my right arm. I thought my husband, who was following me, had thrown me something like a seaweed (even though there were no seaweeds on the floor, that was my first thought). I turned and saw a small lizard running away. It had fallen from the ceiling on my arm. I wondered if it was one of Erik’s pranks. 😉 But I have no doubt that the Eric Clapton’s song was a real sign from Erik. And knowing how much he loves music and his guitar, I am flattered he chose to communicate with me through music. Thank you so much!

I don’t know why I feel compelled to share this, but here’s Erik’s last phone greeting before he died.
