A couple of nights ago, I decided to try a technique that Jason recommended for being able to visualize spirit guides and deceased loved ones. So, a instructed, I focused on a dark corner of the room for, say 30 seconds or so. This was no easy task, because, as usual, other thoughts intruded like, “Did I take the clothes out of the dryer?” and “What should I cook for dinner tomorrow?” All important spiritual questions, right? I gave into those incoming mortar shells and continued my relaxed focus, making sure to maintain an awareness of my peripheral vision. A couple of times, I drifted off to sleep, but I’d awaken and renew my focus. I had all but given up when, in my periphery, I saw a golden glowing light. Something (or someone) told me not to shift my gaze toward it so, despite my excitement, I continued the exercise as instructed. Over a few seconds, that golden glow began to take shape. Slowly, I could see the profile of a face, hair, shoulders, a chest, an abdomen…basically everything from the waist up. I immediately recognized, not only the familiar shape and expressions, but the energy signal that shape gave off. It was my Erik. He had come for a visit! Then, I saw one of his arms start to move. He took his hand and lowered it toward my leg, then suspended it around 3 to 4 inches above it. At that moment, I felt the same familiar goosebumps, the classic Erik greeting! I was so elated, that tears of joy streamed down my face. The entire experience lasted no more than half a minute, but, for me, it will last a lifetime.
Since then, I’ve wondered why we always see spirits best in our peripheral vision. Is it because of a certain concentration of rods and cones there? Is it because we have more of a gentle awareness in that part of our visual field rather than an intense focus? We’ll see what Erik has to say in an upcoming session.
