Erik Calls Shotgun

Long time blog member, True, shared a heartwarming story about our boy, Erik, doing what he seems to thoroughly enjoy lately: chilln’ with someone from the Channeling Erik family. As he did in life, he makes good company.

A few weeks ago, I had to go down to San Diego for the day for some meetings.  As I was getting ready in the morning, I said aloud, “Hey Erik – do you want to go to San Diego with me today?  You should really drive down with me – we’ll pass the ocean and one of the best surfing beaches on the West Coast” – he enthusiastically replied – “Hell Yeah” – told him to hang tight and I would let him know when it’s time to leave.
We spent the ride “talking” about music – an Eagle’s song came on and I told him how much I love that band – told him to listen to the guitars – he agreed they are really good.  As we got closer to San Diego, the ocean is very clearly in view from the freeway and it was an exquisite day.  I told him how much I love being on this planet and he told me how glad he was to be done with it but that he appreciated seeing the ocean and smelling the ocean air through me.  I told him that the true sadness I feel for him and his tough journey in this last life is tempered by knowing how joyful his life is now – and how his work with you is so important – he graciously agreed and thanked me for acknowleding that about him.  Then he noted that I’ve been on this plane a lot and that I must really love it or I’m kind of dense and can’t figure out how to get it right – just like a little brother.
When we hit north San Diego county, there were military exercises going on in the water – I’m not sure if they were Marines or Navy because both have very large bases down there.  There was a helicopter hovering in the sky above the water and soldiers in scuba suits and gear were jumping out of the helicopter into the water – I could feel the biggest energy surge in my chest – he was so excited!!!  He told me he had never seen such a thing – then he got quiet and just focused on it until they were out of sight.
When I got to my office, I invited Erik to sit in on some meetings, see what I do for a living – and he immerdiately replied. “BORING – SO not interested…..”  And I told him that was cool, and thanked him for riding down with me that morning and being very good company.

Sure sounds like Erik, eh? At least he didn’t monopolize the radio! Thanks for sharing this, True!
Y’all keep your fingers and toes crossed that we get some good news when the 2011 Bloggies winners are announced between 8:00 and 10:00 P.M. EST today. Whatever the results, I want to say again how grateful I am for your friendship and solidarity. I love you all so, so much!
